April –
The Fuchsias that were cut back and over wintered in a cold greenhouse are now potted up and shooting nicely.
I like to pinch out the tops when each shoot has 3 or 4 sets of leaves. Then pinch out again when more new shoots grow. This gives a lovely bushy plant.
Use the tops for cuttings. It doesn’t matter if they are small.
Have a gin and tonic…
Fill a couple of 3 inch pots with fine multi purpose compost. Trim the cuttings below a leaf joint and remove the lower leaves.
Have another gin and tonic.…
Dib 3 cuttings into each pot and water them in. Cut the now empty tonic bottle in half round the middle to make 2 mini greenhouses. Cover the pots with the little greenhouses and place on a warm but not sunny windowsill. When you see new growth then the cuttings are growing. Pot on.
Of course this works with a nice new plant from the garden centre, too. Or most plants, actually.
